FAQs

It’s a simple concept – great thrift shopping to benefit animals in need.  Yet, there are lots of questions about how it all works.

To help make sure you’re donating items we can use and in a way we can use them, please be sure to read up below before donating.

Have other questions?  They’re likely covered below.  If not, give us a ring!

Your Donations

Are my donations tax-deductible?

Yes!  We have received our 501(c)(3) tax status and are now a bona fide non-profit.

Do I need to make an appointment to donate?

Donations are dropped off during business hours.  Please visit the How to Donate page for more information.

What brands and types of items does Fetch accept?

Fetch accepts almost everything you’d find in a home or on a patio and any brand.  The most important thing is that the item is in good condition.  Before donating, ask yourself, “Would I buy this in its current condition?”  If the answer is “yes”, please bring it.

Are there items Fetch doesn’t accept?

Please do not donate items that are broken, stained, torn or damaged.  If it smells like smoke, pet urine, or moth balls, please don’t bring it to Fetch.  Also, there are items we are unable to accept due to low demand, safety and liability issues, as well as regulations or space limitations. Please review our How to Donate page for information about items we can and cannot accept.

What if I donate something Fetch can’t use in your store?

All items are reviewed to determine if they meet our quality standards and can be sold in the store.  Any items that we are not able to sell are donated to another charity or discarded if they are damaged or broken.

Does Fetch offer pick-up service of donations?

We currently do not offer pick up service.

Can I consign my items instead of donating?

As a nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless pets, our focus is on raising funds to succeed with our mission. We are not in a position to consign any items at this time.  You may donate your items and know that proceeds are used to help give homeless pets a second chance at life.

Grants to Animal Charities

We will donate 100% of our net profits. Visit our Causes We Support page for current information.

How are the charities selected?

Organizations are selected based on their mission. It is our intent to provide cash grants to many organizations, as well as for specific purposes for which funds are needed (i.e. special medical funds, senior pets, emergency requests, etc). If your non-profit organization is interested in becoming a potential grant recipient, please fill out our Grant Application Form and follow the instructions on the form.

Where can I find a low cost spay/neuter clinic?

Thank you for being a responsible pet owner. Spaying/neutering your pet is one of the best things you can do to reduce pet overpopulation. To find resources, visit our Resources page.

I’m interested in adopting. Where should I start?

A great place to start is PetFinder.com, which offers a database of thousands of animals in shelters and with rescue groups. You can search based on many criteria. To find local shelters and rescues for adoption, visit our Resouces page. Thank you for adopting and saving a life.

I can no longer keep my pet. Can you help me find a home?

Unfortunately, we are not in a position to offer rescue for owner surrenders. We believe having a pet is a lifetime commitment. This decision should not be taken lightly and it is very difficult on the pet to be taken away from its home. Have you considered all options, including training and reaching out to friends and family, before you make this move? There are organizations that can offer assistance for struggling families.

If you must take this step and are committed to finding the pet a home, you can contact numerous rescue organizations. Visit local PetSmart, Petcos and other adoption locations during adoption events to ask for help.

You are welcome to place a flier in our store. Network with your friends and family. Share on your Facebook page. Your last resort should be taking the pet to a county shelter, as your beloved pet could be euthanized that same day.

Where do the net proceeds go?

All profits from Fetch directly help local rescues to find “forever homes”, provide medical care, food, supplies and support local spay and neuter programs. Local communities seem to share a deep desire to help these animals and rescues but during difficult financial times, it’s hard for many animal lovers to donate money.  Fetch Thrift Shop donates to local animal rescues and to the cats and kittens in our care.
